Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit Visits the China-Dominica Modern Agriculture Center

Accompanied by Mr. Lu Kun, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Commonwealth of Dominica, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica visited the China-Dominica Modern Agriculture Center in Portsmouth on March 9th, 2019, together with Hon. Reginald Austrie, Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Ian Douglas, Minister for Trade, Energy and Employment, Hon. Dr. John Collin McIntyre, Minister for Public Works, Water Resource Management and Ports and other officials.

Prime Minister Skerrit visited the nursery greenhouses and fruit and vegetable bases, listened to the work report of the agriculture center, and exchanged views with Ambassador Lu on the agricultural cooperation between China and Dominica.

Prime Minister Skerrit said that China was the best friend of Dominica and the China-Dominica Modern Agricultural Center was an important symbol of the development of the bilateral relations. He expressed deep appreciation to the tangible technological support from the Chinese agriculture experts as well as their hard works and positive results post hurricane Maria, which has benefitted many local farmers. He also thanked for the strong support from the Chinese Government and the Chinese Embassy in Dominica. At the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Dominica, Prime Minister Skerrit is looking forward to further developing bilateral relations and deepening mutual cooperation. In addition, he said that Dominica would continue to adhere to the One-China Policy and support China in the international affairs.

Ambassador Lu said that both China and Dominica attached great importance to the agricultural development. There are solid foundation and broad prospects in the field of agricultural cooperation. He said the achievement of the Agriculture Center was due to the long-term support from Hon. Skerrit and the Dominican Government. China is keen to continue to develop bilateral relations and regards Dominica as good friend and partner. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 15 years ago, the China-Dominica relations have been stable and the mutual political trust has been strengthened and the cooperations in all areas have been deepened. Ambassador Lu expressed deep appreciation for the Dominican Government's adherence to the One-China Policy and support to China in the international affairs. He also expects to continue deepening friendship between the two countries in the future.
